Counterfeit Check Scam

We have recently become aware that fraudulent checks are being sent out that have not been issued by Caltech. These checks are being generated by an unknown individual, mailed randomly to unsuspecting recipients throughout the United States. The counterfeit check is sent via Fed Ex to the recipient to give it the illusion that it is genuine and urgent. While the check appears genuine, it is not, it is counterfeit. This is nothing more than a check fraud scheme.
